Gebr. Decap Antwerp nv

Introduction

In 2002, the firm of Gebr. Decap NV (Decap Brothers Ltd.) in Antwerp, Belgium, proudly celebrated its centenary.  The company was founded by Alois Decap, whose sons later continued and greatly expanded the business.  A wide variety of organs and orchestrions were built (and indeed are still being built today), including the famous series of huge 121 key dance organs. For smaller cafés and dance halls, the 92 and 72 key dance organs were equally successful. The brothers became well known for their innovative and progressive ideas, both musically and visually, which helped to keep the firm’s products in great demand and ahead of the competition.

Gavioli & Cie. Paris

Introduction

Without doubt, the Gavioli firm was the largest producer of fairground organs in the world, originating numerous important inventions which, over the course of time, were adopted by many of its competitors. You can read more about the Gavioli family, their business and product in the book Waldkirch Street and Fairground Organs by Dr. Herbert Jütteman and translated by Andrew Pilmer.

We have completely restored a number of Gavioli instruments and worked on many others, giving us an especially broad appreciation of their products. You can read about various Gavioli organs we have restored by clicking the links below.

A. Ruth & Sohn, Waldkirch

Introduction

The Ruth firm was established in the early 1840’s in the small Black Forest town of Waldkirch, near Freiburg.  Until 1900, when their first cardboard book-playing instrument appeared, only barrel organs were built.

Ruth developed a varied range of instruments suitable for the differing needs of travelling showmen, amongst whom the ownership of a Ruth organ was a mark of success and affluence.  Their visual appeal, as well as their outstanding musical capabilities have ensured that a high percentage of them have survived until the present day.  You can read more about the Ruth family, their business and products in the book Waldkirch Street and Fairground Organs by Dr. Herbert Jütteman and translated by Andrew Pilmer.
